Meet Glendy

Glendy has been handling the book keeping, administration, and assisting with our adult learning program since she started working here at Project For Hope at the beginning of this year. In her own words, she considers her life to be one of the first fruits of the work God has been doing here at PFH. She is extremely hardworking and is dedicated to serving however is needed in the ministry. If we need someone to visit the home of one of the ladies to explain their homework or drop off school supplies, she’s your girl. If you need prayer, tutoring, or just someone to talk to, she’s got your back!

Glendy knows all too well the life of the kids at PFH who are growing up in the home of a single mother struggling to survive. She lived it. Glendy met Chris and Holly almost 10 years ago, when she along with her mother, two sisters and her brother were kicked out of there home and had nowhere to go. They received a house through the 12X12 Love Project ministry and someone decided to pay for Glendy to finish her education, investing in her life. Because she is the oldest of her siblings, she began working full time as soon as she was old enough. From the age of 16, she was the sole breadwinner in her home. For the past decade, she worked from 7am to 11pm in a factory packing vegetables that were grown here in Magdalena. After working over 90 hours during the week, she worked hard every weekend to finish her studies and get her high school diploma. Here in Guatemala, you can choose a major in high school so she graduated in 2018 with her certificate in accounting.

Her life goal has been to make sure all of her siblings finish high school. Glendy and her sister paid for her brother’s education, and then her brother helped her pay for their youngest sister’s education. All 3 of her siblings have graduated, thanks to Glendy pushing them through. Because of the struggles she has faced, she knows without a doubt that anyone can do what they set their mind to. She’s constantly encouraging the ladies we serve to keep moving forward and keep believing in themselves.

In her words, “God gave me the opportunity to work here to love, care for, and sow the love of God into the lives of the mothers we serve. Through education and the work we do here, we’re helping lay a solid foundation in their lives.”
